Tent Camping Tips and Tricks – Tips and Tricks to Camping Like A Pro

Posted on September 18, 2019September 18, 2019 by Alex

In this post I want to share a few tent camping tips and tricks. Most of these tips can be applied to any style of camping but tent camping is the best so that’s what our focus will be on. I will show you some tricks to hanging tarps without having to climb to the tops of the trees. I will also share with you some easy tricks to starting fires and keeping them lit for warmth and protection throughout the night.

Through my content here at TheTentKings I hope to make you all pros at camping and I hope to get more people involved in outdoor activities. Over the years people have been getting more and more scared of adventure and instead opt for the easy simple life of staying inside. I hope to share these tent camping tips and tricks with you in order to show you that camping is not as scary as you might think and can be really fun easy and relaxing if you just had the knowledge necessary.

Hanging Tarps

Tarps are an essential ingredient to any campers adventure. From privacy to weather protection tarps are a campers best friend. The more tarps you have the better (in my opinion). You can hang them above your tent and seating area to protect from rain or even the pesky sun rays. You can also use them to build walls and create your own bathroom/changing area.

Sometimes privacy is hard to come by when camping. Your essentially eating, playing, and sleeping outside of the comfort of your home. Of course, you have your tent so that people aren’t watching you sleep but every other aspect of your day is open for anyone nearby to see. This is why tarps can be essential. Setting up tarps as walls is a great way to keep your privacy while camping. I personally use tarps to make a changing area in all of my campsites. Tents can give you that privacy but they can be cramped and awkward when trying to change your clothes. This tarp room can also double as a bathroom if there is not an accessible one near you.

Hanging your tarps from trees is your best bet. But sometimes it’s hard to reach those branches that you need just by hand. Take a full water bottle for weight and tie a string from it to a corner of your tarp. Simply toss the bottle up around the desired limb and vuala your tarp is now ready to be tied down without ever having to climb anything. Make sure tho that you have enough rope to tie it off somewhere that you can reach so you can take it down as easy as you set it up.

Cleaning Your Site

There are a ton of tent camping tips and tricks but non of them really give you the comfort and relaxation that keeping your campsite clean can have. Always make sure to keep all trash picked up. This will help keeping raccoons away at night and just keeps your campsite cozy and comfortably clean.

Another tip for after or even before setting up your campsite is to take a broom and sweep all the sticks and leaves away from your tent, fire ring, or even just sweep your whole site. This will not only make walking around your site much easier but it also makes your site feel that much more cozy. When you actually make an effort to spruce up your site the smallest things can make the biggest difference.

Keeping all your clothes, food, accessories all organized and in a rightful place will also not only make life easier for you when searching for something but it will also create that cozy relaxing feeling

Campfire Tips and Tricks

There are so many tips and tricks to starting and maintaining a fire that this list could go on forever. Instead, I’ve chosen a few that I think are the easiest and simplest for everyone from beginners to pros.

Always bring a fire starter. Either a lighter or a torch will do just fine. No need for flint and steel when you have a torch and lint. Speaking of, lint is probably the easiest fire starter that everyone has. Everyone washes and drys their clothes and every dryer creates lint. Simply bag some of it and keep it in a dry place only used for your camping adventures. Trust me it makes life easier if your not trying to catch a log on fire with a match for an hour.

Always make sure the area around your fire is clear of any sticks or leaves. Fires have a mind if their own and anything that it can burn, it will. This is a huge safety tip especially when having an overnight fire for warmth and protection.

Campsite Setup and Tear Down

Maintaining a clean an organized campsite is essential for a quick and easy setup or tear down of a campsite. Remember, it may be a home away from home but it’s not permanent unless you own the land your camping on. Therefore, avoid using things such as nails or Staples or anything that can be a hazard to the wildlife in the next campers after you. Opt instead for string and ropes. Might take a little longer but it will be easier to take down and move away in the end.

You never know when an unexpected storm or other emergency might call for your immediate removal of your campsite. Be Always prepared. This is why cleaning and organizing is so important because you never know when you’ll have to leave in a hurry.

Camping Like A Pro

Hopefully these tent camping tips and tricks have helped you all realize that camping can be simple yet fun at the same time. Think of it this way, early settlers and native Americans lived outdoors camping. Your only their on a trip. If they can do it for a lifetime you surely can do it for a weekend. It’s a lot feel changing experience that I hope everyone can enjoy and pass on to the next generations.

It’s very simple to camp like a pro. Be Always prepared for anything. Always have an exit plan. Always have fun.
